🌱 What a delightful gardening session we had at Hampton Court with our preschoolers! While the children were busy tending to the flowers and strawberries, nature had a surprise in store for us. We stumbled upon some curious snails and slugs and couldn't resist stopping to say ‘hello’ to them. It turned into an unexpected adventure filled with wonder and giggles as we watched them go on their own little journeys. Moments like these remind us of the magic found in every corner of the garden! 🌿

Happy National Gardening Week!

A garden is a classroom and a teacher in itself. For toddlers, gardening offers many benefits, similar to what we experience through messy play. In our Teddington setting, watering cans are provided at all times so children can water the plants whenever they feel it's needed. Since toddlers aren’t expert gardeners (yet!), we expect some overzealous watering. But that's alright! It's more about what they're learning through exploring!

Our pre-schoolers in Ham made a yummy fruit salad! From slicing juicy strawberries and kiwis to tossing colourful fruits, they had so much fun while learning about flavours, textures, and the vitamins hidden inside them! Moreover, they practiced their fine motor skills while slicing and chopping fruits into little pieces.

Before children start to write, they need to explore the world of mark-making to the fullest and learn how to draw different types of lines. Giving children plenty of opportunities to do so, on a simple and plain piece of paper without any tracing lines, allows them to practice pre-writing shapes.
These shapes encompass all the forms they need to learn in order to form letters, including the directional movements of horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines, as well as curves such as lines, circles, waves, zig-zags, and loops.
This time, our toddlers in Ham decided to draw lots and lots of circles!

During their gardening session, pre-schoolers lovingly replanted their sunflowers, fostering a deeper connection with nature. 🌻 Gardening isn't just about beautifying our space! It's about nurturing a love for the Earth and all its wonders.

Through gardening, children sharpen their motor skills while exploring the sensory delights of nature. 🌿 And as they get to know their greens, they develop a better relationship with food- making veggies like carrots a little less scary! 🥕
But it's not just about the plants: it's about instilling a sense of being responsible of our planet. As all children grow, so does their appreciation for green spaces and their commitment to caring for our environment. 🌳
