At Katey’s Nursery & Pre-school in Brentford, we have been inspired to introduce the Reggio Emilia educational Philosophy into our day-to-day activities. ‘The Reggio Emilia philosophy believes in the rights and opinions of each child. A child is a competent, capable, and natural researcher who has the desire for knowledge and life and is always ready for challenges.’
We believe learning is never a solo experience, it happens with the interaction of others; children, adults, environment and spaces. Our focus is on the processes that evolve from discussions, reflection, and the children’s imagery rather than the final product, this way the children create originals from their own poetic versions of the world.

Extra special activities
Zig Zag Zumba
Zig Zag Zumba sessions prepare children’s gross and fine motor skills to be ready for writing at school. Drawing, painting, and movement to the rhythm of classical music.
Music
We have lots of musical instruments and qualified musicians within our setting. During your child’s time with us they will be introduced to a range of instruments from violins to didgeridoos, all within a structured and fun environment.
Cooking
Once a week all children don their chef’s hats and aprons and prepare all manner of creative food goodies, hot and cold. Messy, and exceptionally tasty fun!
Languages
Being a diverse nursery with staff from around the world, we hold structured language classes in many of the mother tongues spoken by our team, including Spanish, German and Mandarin. We will introduce these to your children in a fun way through games, song and role-play.

The Manager
At Kateys we pride ourselves on the calibre of our staff, and the longevity of their service – in fact, we have never had to use bank staff, which many nurseries now cannot survive without. Our team are carefully selected for their qualifications, past experience, and passion and enthusiasm for children and learning. They are led by the cream of our crop, the Managers, who live and breathe childcare.
Nutrition
At Katey’s Nursery & Preschool, we are committed to providing healthy and delicious hot meals that benefit the children and the environment. Our menus have been approved by child nutrition specialist Nicky Dexter and are always enjoyed enthusiastically by our children due to their great taste and nutritional balance.
Our food includes locally sourced ingredients, use free-range eggs, soups and sauces made from real ingredients. For children under the age of one, we avoid salt in our food, and for older children, salt is limited to a maximum of 50% of the recommended daily allowance. Waste is properly recycled, and all baby food is freshly made. Our food contains no E-numbers or additives except for bread, ice cream, and certain diets.
