Before children start to write, they need to explore the world of mark-making to the fullest and learn how to draw different types of lines. Giving children plenty of opportunities to do so, on a simple and plain piece of paper without any tracing lines, allows them to practice pre-writing shapes.
These shapes encompass all the forms they need to learn in order to form letters, including the directional movements of horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines, as well as curves such as lines, circles, waves, zig-zags, and loops.
This time, our toddlers in Ham decided to draw lots and lots of circles!

During their gardening session, pre-schoolers lovingly replanted their sunflowers, fostering a deeper connection with nature. 🌻 Gardening isn't just about beautifying our space! It's about nurturing a love for the Earth and all its wonders.

Through gardening, children sharpen their motor skills while exploring the sensory delights of nature. 🌿 And as they get to know their greens, they develop a better relationship with food- making veggies like carrots a little less scary! 🥕
But it's not just about the plants: it's about instilling a sense of being responsible of our planet. As all children grow, so does their appreciation for green spaces and their commitment to caring for our environment. 🌳

Our little chefs at our Ham branch have been whipping up magic in their classroom: they made flapjacks from scratch! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳
They learned about ingredients and that raisins are just dried grapes! 🍇Cooking sessions like these aren't just about delicious treats: they're vital for early years development, sparking curiosity and teaching valuable skills for life. Cooking also gives children knowledge about food, where it comes from and what is healthy and unhealthy. It also gives them valuable self-help skills! Bon Appétit!

Today in our Hampton Court branch toddlers had a lot of fun catching wiggly worms made of cooked pasta with tweezers. Not only did they work on their fine motor skills, but they also sparked their curiosity about the wonders of nature and expanded their vocabulary and learned prepositions while describing the hiding worms. 🌟

Our pre-schoolers in Hampton Court were introduced a beautiful exploration experience!
Using pipettes, they dissolved soda-based eggs, revealing hidden surprises within 🥚 🪲
Not only did this spark curiosity, but it also supported their fine motor skills and taught them the art of using tools. Learning and fun go hand in hand! ✨

Thanks to the generous donation from one of our amazing parents, we now have tadpoles to support our focus on life cycles. 🐣🐸 Pre-schoolers will have the opportunity to closely observe the fascinating stages of frog development outdoors, helping them to familiarise themselves with nature's wonders and expand their vocabulary!
